Common Questions

Who will actually do the work at my house?

All foremen and staff are full time, professional painters. Our employees work exclusively for us. We do not subcontract our work to outside sources. We also have full time carpenters and wallpaper hangers on our staff. All job sites are staffed with a professional foreman and a team of painters.

What is your payment schedule?

We require a deposit equal to the cost of materials to schedule the work, and typically require one progress payment once the preparation is complete. Final payment is due upon completion and inspection of the work. Larger projects will require progressive payments throughout the job.

What is your lead time to start a project?

Our typical lead time is two to four weeks from receipt of the signed contract and deposit.

What insurance do you carry?

We carry a comprehensive liability policy to cover any problem that could occur on your property. We also carry a complete Worker's Compensation package, as required by law, in the event that any member of our crew is hurt during the project.

What is your warranty?

All work is fully guaranteed for a minimum period of two years.

Do you offer discounts?

Take advantage of off season rates for work completed in January, February, or March.

I want to go ahead with the work. How do I proceed?

Sign the contract where indicated and mail it to our address with a deposit equal to the material estimate (or 10% of the contract price). We will call you with a schedule date and, if required, to set up a meeting to review details of the job.

What if I have a question or problem during the job?

You may contact our office at 914 238-5388. You will also be given your foreman's cellular telephone number to contact him directly.

If I call your office and leave a message, how soon should I expect a call back?

Our office is professionally staffed Monday thru Friday. You will be contacted the same day. Messages left over the weekend will be returned no later than Monday morning.

What if I have questions about the products or procedures listed in my estimate?

Call Will Korth for further explanation. The proper type of paint and number of finish coats are critical to a job. Will has been in the painting business for 28 years and is expert in determining your job's requirements.

Is it necessary for me to be home during the work?

You do not need to be home while work is in progress. We may need to meet with you at the beginning of the job to coordinate the work and so you can provide access.

What if carpentry issues, such as rotten wood, are discovered during the job?

Korth & Shannahan has full time carpenters on staff. If we find unexpected issues during the project, we will bring them to your attention and decide on a course of action. We prefer to replace rotten or deteriorated wood, rather than patching or painting a surface that is not sound.

I'm not sure what colors I want to use on my job.

We typically work with Benjamin Moore colors. We can furnish you with color charts to make your initial selection. If required, we can provide color tests prior to the commencement of the job to help you make the right choice. Colors must be confirmed before the job can begin.

What is the most important factor in making a paint job last?

PREPARATION! No other local painter prepares a house for painting better or more thoroughly than Korth & Shannahan.

What is the most important factor in the appearance of my home after the painting work is complete?

Attention to detail. No other local painter details a house better than Korth & Shannahan.
